Erice, Monte San Giuliano until 1934, Erici or U Munti in Sicilian is an Italian town in the province of Trapani in Sicily. Mount Erice is a large natural area with woods, in particular the area of Martogna, the state-owned woods of Sant'Anna and the Porta Spada district (which in turn have colorful paths for trekking), is located east of Trapani, declining up to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Erice was formerly known as the "city of a hundred churches", today many are visible and some are open to worship, among which stands out the Royal Madrice Insigne Collegiate Church, better known as Erice Cathedral, located in Piazza Matrice, near Porta Trapani . Among the many wonders that the ancient medieval village offers, the castle of Venus does not pass unnoticed, rising on an isolated cliff in the south-eastern corner of the summit, built on the ruins of the Temple of Venus Erycina. Passing through Erice you can't miss the "Genovese", a typical Erice sweet that finds its maximum expression in the expert hands of Maria Grammatico, owner of the homonymous pastry shop.
